Henry Greene, O.D., F.A.A.O

 Henry Greene
After his graduation from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1974, Dr. Greene first practiced in New York City.  He was a staff member at the Helen Keller Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired, and a vision consultant to the St. Francis de Sales School for the Deaf where he published research on managing the vision needs of hearing impaired children.  After moving to Buffalo, NY, he became a staff optometrist at Group Health, Inc. and at the Blind Association of Western New York. He moved to Durham with his wife and first son in 1980.  He established Academy Eye Associates in 1980, joined in the forming of Ocutech, a Chapel Hill developer of vision aids for the visually impaired in 1984 and joined the ophthalmology faculty at UNC School of Medicine in 1991 where he is now a clinical professor.

His professional interests are broad and include general eyecare and specialty work in contact lenses, children’s vision, and vision rehabilitation—which involves treating individuals who have reduced vision due to development disorders, diseases of the eyes, stroke, head trauma or neurological disease.  He has treated patients who have traveled from throughout the US, Europe, the Caribbean, and South America.

University Affiliations
As a faculty member in the Department of Ophthalmology at UNC, Dr. Greene teaches residents, sees patients and directs UNC’s vision rehabilitation clinic.  In the past he has collaborated with the Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Program and the Center for Human Development and Aging both at Duke University.

Researcher, Author, and Lecturer
As Vice-President of Ocutech, Dr. Greene has been the principal investigator on over $1.5 million in NIH grant funding to develop optical devices to aid the visually impaired and has received numerous awards for his work.  Doctors throughout the world now prescribe Ocutech devices developed through these efforts.  Dr. Greene is widely published in peer-reviewed journals and texts and presents lectures and courses nationally and internationally on managing the needs of the visually impaired.  In 2008 he received the William Feinbloom Career Achievement Award, one of Optometry’s highest honors, from the American Academy of Optometry for his work in visual impairment.

Biography
Dr. Greene lives in Durham with his wife, Marilyn Telen, MD, Chief of the Division of Hematology at Duke.  He has two grown sons; the eldest an international political scientist based in Moscow, and the second a Computer Science graduate from Carnegie-Mellon University.  Dr. Greene enjoys photography, skiing, tennis, and metal sculpture.  He is a long serving member of the Board of Directors of the Jewish Heritage Foundation of North Carolina.


David Kroninger, O.D.

Doctors_BioPictureFile/davidbiopic.jpgA native of Central Ohio, Dr. David L. Kroninger earned a Master of Science in microbiology before deciding to pursue a career in optometry. He received his doctorate in optometry in 1982 from The Ohio State University. He continued his training with a residency program focused on geriatric care at the VA Medical Center. During his residency, Dr. Kroninger was a contact lens consultant and instructor of contact lenses at The Ohio State University College of Optometry.

Professional Affiliations
Dr. Kroninger is a member of both the North Carolina Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. In addition he is a member of Beta Sigma Kappa, the international optometry honorary fraternity.

In 1983 Dr. Kroninger entered into private practice in Chapel Hill, NC. He became affiliated with Academy Eye Associates in 1994. In his practice today he continues to specialize in contact lenses, geriatric care, treatment of eye diseases and laser vision correction.

Biography
Dr. Kroninger lives just south of Chapel Hill, with his wife Jane. In his avocation, he has become an accomplished local sculptor in both stone and metal and wood. He is also an avid hiker, skier, bicyclist and tennis player.


Dale Stewart, O.D.

Doctors_BioPictureFile/dalebiopic.jpgDr. Dale Stewart received his degree in Optometry from the Ohio State University College of Optometry in 1978. A past Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, he completed his post-doctoral fellowship in Low Vision/Rehabilitation Optometry at the Illinois College of Optometry. Accepting an appointment there as Assistant Professor, he was Director of the Low Vision Rehabilitation Service. Dr. Stewart left teaching in 1983 to enter private practice in Durham, and joined Academy Eye Associates in 1989. Professional interests and experience include Low Vision Rehabilitation, and specialty contact lens work in keratoconus, and post-surgical corneas. A member of many professional and civic organizations, Dr. Stewart was recognized with Durham’s Distinguished Service Award in 1994 for his ongoing service to Durham County.


Barbara Wujciak, O.D.

Dr. Barbara Wujciak joined Academy Eye Associates in October 2009. She is a 1990 graduate of the New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA. From 1991 to 2008 she enjoyed growing a private optometry practice in Carrboro, NC where the health of her patients was emphasized through the health of their eyes. Dr. Wujciak earned her Bachelors of Arts in Education in 1983 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and taught high school mathematics for 3 years in Durham. She is from Rocky Mount, NC and enjoys running, cross-word puzzles and bragging about her nephews.
